Rafter Cross Beef
Range to Table Beef
Welcome Rafter Cross Beef
We are a family owned cattle operation that raises our beef on pasture. We grain finish the beef for excellent flavor and superb marbling. Currently, we offer beef sold as whole, half, quarter beef and custom processed to your desired cuts.
Questions you might have
Is this grass-fed beef?
The short answer is no, our beef is grain finished, which results in a better tasting beef with superb marbling.
The long answer is more complex than that. Our cows and calves feeds on grass pasture during the summer. After weaning, calves are fed a developed nutritional ration for maximum weight gain.
Are hormones and antibiotics used?
Growth hormones are never used on our cattle.
Routine vaccinations for animal health and disease prevention is administered per labeled recommendation to prevent diseases that could sicken or kill animals. If a particular animal requires it, we administer antibiotics and high-quality veterinary care. Depending on how the animal recovers, we will either follow posted withdrawal periods before slaughter or remove it from our available beef.
Do the animals have a good life before harvest?
Beef calves spend the summer grazing and then are moved to feeding pens with ample room and space, sunshine, clean areas, and shelter from bad weather.
There is constant access to clean water, from the same well our family uses.
Our farm uses best practice, low-stress handling techniques when handling the cattle. All the cattle taken care of before we take care of ourselves.

How does the processing work?
We use a local family owned and operated processing facility, Clint and Sons.
You will purchase the beef from us, paying by the pound after the animal is harvested, and then pay the processing fee. You can choose the package sizes, steak thicknesses, and cut options you would like.
How much beef will I get?
Beef is normally sold in quarter, half, and whole increments. The table below has a breakdown of possible scenarios.
200 lbs of beef will usually fill a medium-size chest freezer. (Note that these numbers are estimates and the customer's individual cut order may cause this to vary.)
If I just want a quarter of beef, do I have to take a front or back quarter?
No, the processor will split the half of beef so that you get half of both the front and back cuts.
Heres what you get with a typical half beef.
